Direct flights from Jakarta to boost WA tourism

28 June 2013

Tourism Council WA has congratulated Garuda Indonesia, Tourism Minister Kim Hames and Perth Airport on the commencement of a new daily service from Jakarta to Perth that will commence today.

Tourism Council WA Evan Hall said the new service was a great result after months of negotiations backed by Perth Airport and Tourism WA.

“Last year 32,000 Indonesians visited Western Australia and we expect visitor numbers to increase with this new service” said Mr Hall.

“Indonesia could rival China as a growth market for new tourism to WA” said Mr Hall.

“This Jakarta air service is about bringing Indonesian visitors to WA, rather than just WA tourists travelling to Bali through Denpasar” said Mr Hall.

“Indonesia is growing tourism market for WA and this new service will attract tourists, business travelers, conference delegates and international students alike from Indonesia and South East Asia.”

“Tourism Council WA will provide the industry with Islamic cultural awareness training so we can provide high quality services for our growing market of Muslim guests from Indonesia, south-east Asia and the Middle East” said Mr Hall.
