Event funding to boost tourism in the Great Southern

Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall has welcomed today’s announcement of a funding increase for the IGA Taste Great Southern food and wine festival through the State Governments Regional Events Program.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall applauded Tourism Minister Kim Hames and Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls on today’s announcement and said “investment in events like the Taste Great Southern festival is critical to getting Australians to visit regional WA”.
“Regional tourism operators in tourism towns like Denmark have been doing it tough over the past few years and this funding will provide a real boost for tourism trade in our regions” said Mr Hall.
IGA Taste Great Southern will help build the profile of the Great Southern region as a food and wine hub and the increased marketing exposure for the event will drive visitor numbers throughout the six-week festival.
“Just a bit of extra funding can help a regional festival get noticed in Perth and the east coast cities,” said Mr Hall.
“Events are highly effective at getting tourists into regions and spending money on local accommodation, restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions and it is a great use of Government funding” said Mr Hall.
