Government must promote Perth to fill 2,050 new hotel rooms

Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall has welcomed today’s announcement that AVANI will bring its first hotel to Australia next to Perth Arena, but warns tourism promotion is needed to fill the large number of hotel rooms currently in development in Perth.
The additional 450 rooms to be built at AVANI near the Perth Arena will bring the total number of hotel rooms to be built in Perth in the next few years to 2,050.
“With such a large number of rooms expected to be available within years, it is imperative for the State government to invest in promoting Perth as a destination in order to attract visitors to fill these rooms,” Mr Hall said.
“Investing the outstanding $11 million election commitment into tourism promotion would attract at least $209 million in additional spend by visitors and create 1,400 jobs in Western Australia.”
The new hotel will provide easy access to Perth Arena and the Perth City Link business hub for interstate and regional guests.
“While most recent or planned hotel development has been 5 star, this 4.5-star development will provide affordable accommodation for mid-week business travellers who will be accessing the surrounding business facilities,” Mr Hall said.
“It will also give leisure tourists the opportunity to secure accommodation in a location central to Perth’s entertainment precincts – for example, visitors will be able to see a show at Perth Arena and walk a short distance to their hotel.
“This will be an attractive incentive not only for people travelling from outside of the State, but also for local visitors to spend more time in the city centre, creating an economic impact and influencing job creation.”
