Tourism Council WA released a key research paper today which shows Perth needs four new hotel conference venues by 2018 to cater for an additional 4000 conference delegates per day in the city.
The Perth Business Events Supply and Demand Study shows four planned hotel developments in Perth are needed to deliver an extra 6000m² of venue space for banquets, conferences, cocktail parties, trade exhibitions and other events.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said “conferences and events generate $131 million per annum for Perth, but we are running out of space.”
“The city often runs out of space for big events like charity balls, awards nights and international conferences” said Mr Hall.
“Perth currently has 58,000m² of conference space that can host 35,000 people per day” said Mr Hall.
“We need four new hotel conference venues to cater for an additional 4000 conference delegates and guests each day” said Mr Hall.
“Four new hotel conference venues would generate an additional $15 million per year in Perth” said Mr Hall.
“The hotel conference venues will create hundreds of jobs for cooks, chefs, wait-staff, entertainers, musicians and event managers” said Mr Hall.
The new hotel conference space is expected to include the Crown Perth expansion and new hotel development planned at Elizabeth Quay.
