Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall has welcomed the amalgamation of Swan River Trust with the Department of Parks & Wildlife (DPAW). The reforms announced by Environment Minister the Hon Albert Jacobs JP MLA will help create and sustain eco tourism on the Swan and Canning Rivers.

“The Swan River is crucial to Perth’s brand as a tourism destination, it must be protected and celebrated” said Mr Hall.

“DPAW has a good track record in the sustainable management of the environment and tourism and we welcome their stewardship of the river” said Mr Hall.

“Swan River provides a playground for visitors and locals alike” said Mr Hall

“Swan River, Kings Park and the CBD together define Perth’s brand and famous outdoor lifestyle” said Mr Hall.

“But we need to create new eco experiences and adventures which celebrate and enliven the heritage of the river” said Mr Hall.

“The amalgamation will streamline red tape for new tourism operators while raising the environmental standards for tourism on the river” said Mr Hall.

“All recreation and tourism activities on the Swan River will now need to achieve tourism accreditation at the highest environmental standards approved by DPAW” said Mr Hall.

“These Swan River reforms will encourage new tourism experiences for locals and Visitors alike” said Mr Hall.
