WA becomes Australia’s first CHINA READY destination
19 September 2015
WA tourism businesses have seized a unique opportunity to tap into the booming Chinese outbound tourism market, with the State becoming Australia’s first to qualify as a CHINA READY destination.
The announcement was made in front of a quarter of a million travel agents and tourism industry representatives at the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) & Tianjin Government China Tourism Industries Exposition.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall is in China to attend the launch and meet with the Vice Chair of the CNTA and other senior tourism officials.
“Launching Western Australia as Australia’s first CHINA READY destination, in combination with our complementary time zone and unique climate and environment, should give WA operators a real boost in the highly-lucrative Chinese market,” Mr Hall said.
“More than 41,300 Chinese visitors came to Western Australia in the 12 months to June 2015, and we would expect to see this number increase significantly as we promote our high-quality WA product directly into the Chinese market.”
WA now has a significant number of China Ready & Accredited® businesses, which will be promoted through an exclusive website and other unique channels targeted to free and independent Chinese travellers. These CHINA READY businesses range from Crown Perth to attractions like The Bell Tower and Yanchep National Park – along with tourism operators and retailers including Chocolate Drops, Willie Creek Pearls, Crystal Swan and Rockingham Wild Encounters.
China Ready & Accredited® is the independent global training and quality service certification scheme supported by government and industry worldwide. Accredited businesses provide Chinese consumers and business with the assurance of a pre-determined level of cultural awareness, understanding, fair treatment and service quality.
“Businesses which are China Ready & Accredited® give travel agents and consumers in China the certainty that these are high-quality products which meet Chinese tourism laws designed to protect travellers,” Mr Hall said.
WA’s status as the Australia’s first CHINA READY destination will be launched in conjunction with the first CHINA READY accommodation chain, Accor, CHINA READY tour company, APT, CHINA READY global city Chicago, and the China Ready & Accredited partnership with Swiss-based Global Blue – the world’s largest tourism shopping network with more than 300,000 merchants worldwide.
Western Australia’s tourism industry will gather at Crown Perth next week for the 2015 WA Tourism Conference, where many businesses will attend China Ready & Accredited training during pre-conference workshops.
