Tourism backs Stadium operator

8 February 2016

Tourism Council WA welcomes Stadium Australia Operations as the operator of Perth Stadium, as announced today by the State Government.

Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said the Stadium operator needed to have international expertise in sporting, entertainment and cultural events.

“We need an operator that can bring in the big acts like Coldplay, entertainment spectaculars like the Edinburgh Tattoo and international sporting events like Premier League soccer, international rugby and major league baseball,” he said.

“The best stadium operator is the one that brings the best events to the venue, not an operator that favours a particular sporting code.”

Mr Hall said Stadium Australia Operations, who won the tender, and AEG Ogden, the reserve respondent, both had great reputations for bringing in world-class events.

“Tourism Council WA congratulates the government on selecting the best operator for the Stadium and for Western Australia,” he said.

Recent economic analysis acquired by Tourism Council WA shows Perth Stadium has the potential to attract more than 65,000 new visitors and deliver more than $291 million and 1,300 jobs to the State economy through tourism each year.
