WA businesses win at National Tourism Awards

5 February 2016

Tourism Council WA extends its congratulations to the numerous WA tourism businesses awarded medals at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, announced tonight in Melbourne.

Western Australian businesses were awarded a total of ten medals, including one gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

The Awards recognise outstanding tourism operators from around Australia, with all WA finalists being named gold medallists in their categories in the Western Australian Tourism Awards in November 2015.

Margaret River wine tours operators Top Drop Tours continued their dominance in the highly-coveted Tour and Transport Operators category, securing their second gold medal in a row. The husband and wife team has continually developed their business and steadily climbed the Awards ladder, winning Bronze at a State level in 2011, and continuing on to secure State Gold medals in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said it was fantastic to see the extraordinary experiences that the Western Australian tourism industry has to offer being represented on a national level.

“Western Australia should be proud of the great range of amazing experiences on offer for visitors all year round, with all WA finalists exemplifying the diversity of businesses involved in the tourism industry,” he said.

National Anzac Centre was awarded a silver medal in the New Tourism Business category, recognising the centre’s excellence in the planning and development of the culturally-significant project.

South West bed & breakfast HideAway Haven received their first national medal at this year’s awards, taking silver in the Hosted Accommodation category.

In the Ecotourism category, Sail Ningaloo was awarded a silver medal. The business has been entering the awards for a number of years, but won its first gold medal at the 2015 WA Tourism Awards before achieving success at the National awards.

Sandalford Wines was awarded a silver medal in the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category, signifying their product excellence at a national level.

  • Koomal Dreaming – Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Tourism
  • ADAMS Pinnacle Tours – Major Tour & Transport Operators
  • Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures (The Horizontal Hotel) - Unique Accommodation
  • Cottesloe Beach Hotel – Standard Accommodation
