Air services must be secured
18 August 2014
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall has expressed concern with the ongoing viability of regional aviation services following a shake-up of competition and services in regional towns like Exmouth, Esperance and Albany.
Virgin has today announced their intention to reduce aviation services to Albany and Esperance
“Aviation services for non-mining towns are under strain” said Mr Hall.
“We are seeing less competition and reduced number of flights” said Mr Hall.
“Local towns are vulnerable to higher airfares and reduced travel options” said Mr Hall.
“State Government must ensure that minimum air services are guaranteed for regional towns such as Exmouth, Esperance and Albany” said Mr Hall.
“Government should look at proper regulation and subsidies to ensure minimum services are maintained” said Mr Hall.
