Chinese tourism continues to grow

5 June 2013

Latest data released by Tourism Research Australia shows that 31,900 Chinese visitors spent $158 million in Western Australia over the past 12 months ending in March 2013, a 25.2% increase on the previous year.

Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said “the 32.4% growth in Chinese visitors over the past year has been spectacular but WA tourism businesses need to do more to get ready for Chinese tourism.”

Tourism Council WA are working with the tourism industry to get ‘China Ready’ by conducting workshops throughout the state that will assist businesses to understand the needs of this growing market & to be better equipped to service these needs.

The workshop topics include:

  • Cross cultural training for managers and service staff;
  • Language, culture & taboos;
  • Meeting, greeting & serving;
  • Adapting accommodation, food & beverage & tourism services.

“We must show our Chinese guests a great time, so they will promote WA to their family and friends when they get back home” said Mr Hall.
