History & Winners
With thanks to our supporters
Western Australia led the way when it introduced the first formal awards for tourism operators in Australia in 1972. Designed to promote and reward excellence in tourism, the awards were instigated by the Western Australian Department of Tourism and Named in honour of the first Western Australian Minister for Tourism and former Premier, Sir David Brand.
The Western Australian Tourism Awards operated for more than a decade when the concept was taken up on a national basis with the Australian Tourism Awards being formed in 1985. This meant that winners in the WA Tourism Awards could go on to compete in the national arena.
In 1995, organisation of the Western Australian Awards was passed to Tourism Council WA giving ownership of the Awards to the industry.
Today, the WA Tourism Awards is bigger and stronger than ever, and continues to reward and recognise excellence in our industry.
