In this workshop, you can learn the basics of WeChat, and which type of account you could be using. You’ll learn how to add contacts, and how to communicate using this tool to potential agents and suppliers. You'll also hear from industry experts on the best way to work with China-approved ITOs. 

A recent study shows 84 per cent of people in China are willing and able to replace cash with mobile payment. WeChat Pay allows local merchants to receive payments to their Australian accounts within a shorter time frame and at a lower transaction cost than credit cards. Already more than 10,000 shops and restaurants in Australia are using the WeChat Pay system. You’ll get an understanding of how this and other payment platforms work and if it is right for your business.

Amanda Wu is the managing director of MostWA Media. Amanda is originally from Shanghai and has been in Perth since 2004 as a high school student. She finished her bachelor of biomedical science and master of infectious disease at UWA in 2012. In entrepreneurial fashion she started her new career as a business marketing consultant, establishing MostWA in 2015. MostWA focused on building connections between China and Western Australia through multiple platforms, such as WeChat, APP, magazines and functions. The WeChat platform of MostWA has reached 100,000 subscribers, and has provided successful marketing strategies to our local businesses to target the Chinese market.

Meng Wong is Managing Director of Blue Travel, one of Perth’s most successful inbound tour operators. Meng started his business in the early 1990s as a suburban travel agency selling airline tickets and outbound tour packages, soon growing to procuring inbound tour groups from all over Asia. Meng will talk about the value of working with ITO’s in the China market, how working in the Chinese market is different to other markets, and provide some tips about how to work effectively with an ITO.

Rei Seah, Tourism WA’s, Market Manager - China, Indonesia & Emerging Markets, will update on what Tourism WA is doing in market and what you need to know before targeting Chinese visitors.
