Finalists Announced in 2018 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards

20 September 2018

Finalists in the prestigious 2018 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards were announced this evening at an event attended by more than 180 tourism operators and industry representatives at Little Creatures in Fremantle.

The Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards, now in its 46th year, highlight the quality and diversity of tourism attractions, amenities and experiences that Western Australia has to offer, said Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall.

“The Awards program has a long history of celebrating and recognising business excellence, innovation and outstanding customer service by tourism businesses,” he said.

“Every year since the awards started in 1972, the judges have been incredibly impressed by the high calibre of entries in the program – and this year is no exception.”

This year there has been an increase to the number of entrants in the Adventure Tourism category, which recognises outdoor tourism experiences with an element of personal challenge.

“As tourism in Western Australia evolves, we see changes emerging in the entries in the Awards program. This year, more high-quality businesses entering the Adventure Tourism category reflects the industry meeting the desire from visitors for challenging elements as part of the visitor experience,” Mr Hall said.

Perth Airport Chief Corporate Services Officer Debra Blaskett said Perth Airport was delighted to continue as the naming rights sponsor of the 2018 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards, in recognition of the importance of tourism in Western Australia.

“As Australia’s Western Hub, Perth Airport plays a critical role in supporting the tourism industry and we are proud to support the awards which celebrate and reward the extraordinary tourism experiences on offer in our great State,” Ms Blaskett said.

The winners of the 2018 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards will be announced at a gala dinner held on 10 November at Crown Perth. Gold Medal winners in categories 1 to 25 go on to represent WA at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, to be held in Tasmania in early 2019.
