Tourism and education to replace mining as top growth industries

8 October 2013

A major new report has identified tourism and international education as the top economic drivers in Australia’s future. Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall has welcomed the report which calls for a refocus of Federal and State Government economic strategy.

“With the mining boom declining it time for government and business to look at other industries that will drive Australia’s growth” said Mr Hall.

“We need to now look at maximising the potential growth of these sectors and how they can contribute to the national income over the next two decades” said Mr Hall.

“Because of our dependence on mining and our under-investment in tourism this report is highly relevant to WA” said Mr Hall.

“It is now up to both government and industry to invest in tourism and show the Asian and other international markets that there is more to the WA economy then digging holes” said Mr Hall.
